This is a concerning type of scam as the accounts spreading it are not bots. So often verified members can end up spreading them across your server
The egirl cam scam
How it works:
Step 1 - account sends invite to a server claiming a girl is nude live on cam
Variations: These servers are of course completely fake, however sometimes there actually is a voicechat with said nude "girl" on cam. What it actually is - a looped video streamed to the webcam. This way the user doesn't even know that their account is about to be hijacked.
Step 2 - The user for questionable reasons joins that server and atttempts verification
Verification is the part where the accounts are hijacked. The server contains a fake version with one of the popular anti-alt verification bots that require you to authorize them to your discord account. The mechanism behind this varies but what happens is the user gets taken to a fake discord site, they scan a qr code or put in their account credentials and boom - the account is hijacked. IMPORTANT: scammers usually don't change the accounts credentials as that would raise suspicions
Step 3 - once the account is hijacked, the scammers run code on it - send the same message on every channel in every server the account can send messages in (including DM's)
What is the purpose of all this?
That really depends. Sometimes after the third step the scammers do change the account credentials and then sell it. Sometimes it's to have as much people on such server as possible and then convert it to a different server/sell it. In this scam, the user usually only loses their dignity and sometimes their discord account.
The MrBeast casino scam and similiar
This scam is more advanced than the egirl cam scam
Spreading
The accounts spreading this scams are usually bought/gained from different scams such as the covered above egirl scam. However sometimes the casino website requires a login through discord and then it goes from that
How it works
Step 1 - Using the spreading accounts scammers send fake screenshots claiming a famous person has started a casino and include the link to it. The screenshots often state that a free, unrealistically high sign-in bonus is given - that is not fake!
Step 2 - The player plays. After logging in (often through email that will probably be sold and will receive spam. But sometimes through discord/steam account which will result in hijacking of those) the member does get the signing bonus and they play with it.
The games are staged so the player in the end wins BIG
Step 3 - The player wants to cash out. Then the website prompts them for paying a "cashout fee" which is often tens of times lower than the cashout amount. However after paying that fee - nothing happens. The promised winning will never reach the player
Material losses coming from these scams
In this scam users not only lose their money but often their emails become completely trashed with junk, their accounts become hijacked and more! This scam is very dangerous.
How to protect your server against those?
- Block links > An automod that blocks users from sending links will get rid of the egirl scam. However many MrBeast casino scams don't include the link in the message, instead its often on the screenshots.
- Be on lookout > With Active staff, these spammers can be banned quickly and their messages deleted.
